On January 13, 2021, 52 year-old me will be solo, on a one-way flight to Cancun, Mexico, on a six month tourist visa, in the midst of the Covid crisis with no real plan. Well, that’s not strictly accurate.
The other day, while sorting through things to get rid of for this adventure, I found a piece of paper I wrote in August 2019 while sitting by the pool enjoying Spiked Lemonade. It roughly mapped out how I was going to walk myself out of my job in steps so I could do SOMETHING else by August 2020. So in January 2020, I’m part-time, in May I take a leave of absence, in August I become a Contractor and in November, I quit. SOMETHING was already in the works in 2019, I just didn’t know what.
“At the moment of commitment the entire universe conspires to assist you.” ― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
I HAVE done this before (in 2009); THIS being attempting to live abroad. But back then, I squandered my money (had a great time doing it), didn’t teach a lick of English and had to return to the U.S. to start over.
Also in 2009, I’d planned (haha) to stay in Panama but ended up in Guatemala. I was not very happy with myself or things when I left back then. This time, I’m happy and doing something like The Surrender Experiment – which is to go with the flow of life and see where it leads me. I’m bringing you all with me through the twists and turns and look forward to hearing about the ways you want to “Connect with Me” [see blog tab].
Although it seems like poor timing, if nothing else, this whole Virus situation has made it more urgent for me to do the things I want to do – and not just say I want to do them. People and things have been falling out of my life this year which makes it all the more easy. Thanks, 2020.
